NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 – Twenty Strathmore University students and two members of staff are still admitted to various hospitals in Nairobi after mass food poisoning at a dinner last Friday.

Another 80 students have since been treated and discharged.

The students and staff ate at a final year students’ party on Friday that was also attended by some members of staff.

The university’s Director of Communication Betty Ngala says the food served during the fourth year student’s party was from an outsourced caterer.

“We have launched investigations in a bid to establish the cause of food poisoning…we have liaised with the caterer who was a service provider,” she said.

“We usually use the university catering however we have vetted a number of service providers who can provide services to the university.”

Food samples taken during the party have since been taken to various laboratories.

The caterer has provided services at the university for five years.
