The Kenyan leader is in Rwanda to attend the 9th Northern Corridor Infrastructure (NCIP) Summit.
He will be meeting host Paul Kagame, Yoweri Museveni and Salva Kiir to fast-track implementation of the 14 projects launched under the Northern Corridor Infrastructural Projects framework.
The Northern Corridor Integration Projects involve four countries namely, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan with Tanzania and Burundi coming in as observers.
President Kenyatta and his delegation departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 9:00 am on Saturday, arriving in Rawanda’s capital Kigali an hour later.
Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya joined forces in June 2013 not only as members of the East African Community but also as countries of the Northern Corridor that links East Africa and Central Africa to the Port of Mombasa in Kenya.
The NCIP is a multipronged infrastructure project bringing together Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan that are mainly served by the port of Mombasa with the ultimate aim of facilitating regional integration. Tanzania, Burundi, and Ethiopia take part as observers.
Infrastructure envisaged by the project includes standard railway gauge, energy, roads, ICT, and oil pipelines for the region’s budding oil sector.
