Secretary General Ababu Namwamba says the by-election has proven that the party is still strong and that the region remains loyal to ODM.
Speaking at the party’s headquarters after holding a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, Namwamba applauded Kajiado Central residents for supporting ODM candidate Elijah Memusi.
“ODM considers the victory of Memusi in Kajiado Central as a turning point and as a very strong statement that the people of Kajiado Central and the Maa community are Orange,” he stated.
“ODM and CORD is their house of choice; this is only the beginning of our big journey towards 2017.”
Memusi won with 16,008 votes against Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) Patrick Tutui’s 15,508.

During the meeting, Namwamba said the NEC also approved two reports, one on the Kisumu leadership wrangles and the one on the suspended Executive Director Magerer Langat.
He said the recommendations in both reports will be made public next week.
Without giving more details, Namwamba further told journalists that party NEC was united.
“The National Executive Committee of the ODM is fully united behind the agenda we have to strengthen the party ahead of 2017,” he stated.
ODM had been rocked by divisions over claims of bribery in the PAC which Namwamba chairs.
During the briefing, the party Chairman John Mbadi called on the speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi to call for investigations to all other committees whose members are said to be involved in corruption.
He says all corruption allegations should be handled equally while asking Muturi to approve the Public Accounts Committee report on the ‘Hustler’s jet’.
“The Lands Committee and the Energy Committee have been riddled with accusation of serious cases of corruption…as a party, we do not want to see selective application of standing orders of parliament,” he stated.
“We expect the leadership of the National Assembly to extend the investigations that they have launched on PAC to cover other committees.”
