KIAMBU, Kenya, Mar 20 – Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the national government on the leasing of the Sh38 billion worth of equipment and other related services launched by the president earlier in the year.

The memorandum will see commencement of installation of the equipment at Thika Level Five Hospital and the Kiambu District Hospital that were identified by the government.

Speaking at the signing ceremony with the Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, Kabogo said that it was a noble service from the national government and called upon his counterparts that have not signed the deal to do so.

“This is a noble cause that the county cannot turn down. It will save a lot of lives and at the same time reduce the pressure on Kenyatta National and Referral Hospital that has been the only centre with such equipment,” he said.

Kabogo noted that Kiambu had seen an increment in cases related to chronic illnesses such as kidney and cancer and the equipment would bring a sign of relief to patients who have had to endure long queues and harsh conditions in the only referral hospital.

On his part, the Cabinet Secretary noted that the equipment would allow the residents to access specialised treatment at a reduced cost.

“County residents will now enjoy reduced cost of healthcare and thus will go a long way in decongesting Kenyatta National and Referral Hospital,” he noted.

At the same time, Kiambu County Chief Officer for Health Dr Stephen Njuguna commended the governor for signing the pact and noted that it marked a new dawn for Kiambu county residents who have endured the wrath of non-communicable diseases for a very long time.

Dr Njuguna urged the national government to expedite the process of procurement and installation of these medical equipment as Kiambu County was ready and eagerly waiting to have the equipment installed and ready for use.
