NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 5 – Businessman Deepak Kamani, his father Chamanlal and younger brother Rashmi on Thursday recorded statements at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) offices at Integrity centre ahead of their court appearance.

The three, who were accompanied by their lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi and other family members, have been out of the country and arrived late Wednesday ready to face Anglo Leasing charges later Thursday.

“They have come back from various places…they have undergone the normal process; questioning and then recorded statements with them (EACC detectives),” Abdullahi stated.

“It’s a small case of civil nature in our view…it’s a contract dispute and we shall address all these issues in court.”

The Kamanis later went to court in Nairobi where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Kisii Senator Chris Obure and three former permanent secretaries were charged over the multi-billion scandal on Wednesday and former Finance Minister David Mwiraria is to be charged two weeks from now.

International warrants of arrest were issued for Brian Mills and Bradley Birkenfeld after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko told the court that Birkenfeld is an American citizen and Mills’ whereabouts are unknown.
