CID officer shot dead in Mombasa

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 26 – A detective was on Wednesday shot dead by hooded gunmen at Mombasa’s Old Town.

The officer attached to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) was trailed by the unknown assailants and shot at a close range by two gunmen who escaped without stealing anything.

The officer was shot three times in the abdomen and was pronounced dead upon arrival in hospital. The officer, identified as Mohammed Ali has been described as a dedicated officer.

Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa says police have launched investigations over the shooting.

The killing has been linked to suspected radical youths operating in the county especially in Majengo and Old Town areas.

This is the latest attack though security has relatively improved according to police in the county.

In another incident, Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo OCS is fighting for his life in hospital after he was accosted and shot four times in his home in Ruai area.

The OCS was in his house when gunmen broke in and confronted him and shot him at close range before escaping.

Police said he is admitted to hospital in a stable condition but the motive of the attack is yet to be established

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has since called for Kenyans to cooperate with the security apparatus as he plans to introduce new measures in dealing with crime.
