NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13 – The Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) will Saturday conduct nominations to determine the party’s flag-bearer in the upcoming Kabete constituency by-election set or May 4.

The mini-poll follows the killing of George Muchai last month.

Already 12 candidates have expressed interest in the race among them former MP Lewis Nguyai who was trounced in the nominations in the last General Election, former Embakasi MP and Nairobi County gubernatorial loser Ferdinand Waititu.

JAP Vice Chairman David Murathe has urged party members to turn out in large numbers to vote for their preferred candidate to ensure they get the right representation.

“The exercise will be free, fair and open. We will issue the certificate only to whoever will be chosen,” said Murathe.

The party’s Secretary General Veronica Nduati says preparations were top gear and already the staff, voting materials and security officers were in place awaiting constituents to turn up for voting process.

“There are 33 polling stations which will be manned by presiding officers and polling clerks and we expect the process to go on without a hitch,” said Nduati.

It will be a hectic weekend for JAP as it conducts the nominations, as the Kajiado Central by-election tales place on Monday.

Murathe said measures were being taken to make the process corruption free by ensuring presiding officers, returning officers and agents from Kiambu and Nairobi counties including leaders from the region were nowhere near the vicinity of the nomination centers.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had in a notice urged political parties participating in the elections to finalize the nominations and determine intra-party disputes arising from party nomination before Wednesday next week.

The delivery of nomination papers to IEBC will take place on April 6 and 7, 2015
