NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – Pressure is piling on the police to find killers of Kabete MP George Muchai who was executed alongside his bodyguards and driver over the weekend.

Leaders say failure to apprehend and charge the killers will leave Kenyans anxious given the number of executions that have occurred in the country in the past.

Nyando Member of Parliament Fred Outa on Monday joined the list of legislators calling for thorough investigations over the killings saying this should mark the turning point in resolving mysterious assassinations in the country.

Outa said many Kenyans have been murdered in similar circumstances and their deaths were still shrouded in mystery.

“It was very unfortunate that a guarded parliamentarian could be killed in a cold blood…that tells you that this Government has lost direction in terms of dealing with insecurity in the country,” he stated.

Addressing journalists, the MP challenged the Jubilee coalition government to stamp their authority and deal with the runaway insecurity across the country.

Other leaders who have called for the arrest of the perpetrators include President Uhuru Kenyatta who said he was deeply shocked and saddened by the killings.

“A humble and diligent gentleman, the late Hon Muchai was a true servant of the people and his death is a huge loss not only to his family and the people of Kabete Constituency who he served with dedication but to the entire nation,” said the president adding that investigations were underway.

“I expect the police to mobilise all resources to ensure the criminals who murdered Hon. Muchai, his two bodyguards and driver are speedily apprehended and made to pay for their heinous act according to the law,” he said.

On his part, Deputy President William Ruto said the Jubilee Coalition had lost a brother, an astute and able leader particularly on trade union issues, a subject which Muchai was a dependable source of insightful counsel.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has also condemned the killings.

Already detectives investigating the incident are focusing on footage from surveillance cameras on Kenyatta Avenue to help them identify the killers.

A senior police officer told Capital FM News on Saturday that they are not ruling out an execution, based on the nature and circumstances of the shooting.

“It is something we can’t rule out at all because we have been told the gunmen were masked,” the officer whom we cannot name because he has no authority to comment on active investigations said, “It seems to us like something that was well planned but we will get to the bottom of it.”
