NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14- Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has directed his Labour counterpart Kazungu Kambi to record a statement with the police on what he knows about the killing of Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai who was buried on Friday.

This follows remarks made by Kambi during Muchai’s funeral in Kamulu where he publicly announced that he knows the powerful people behind the killing of the former Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Deputy Secretary General, his two bodyguards and a driver.

“It is very unfair for somebody’s name to be mentioned in a murder case if there is no concrete evidence,” Nkaissery stated. “I would wish if that Kambi is aware of the killers of the four individuals, we invite him and demand he writes a statement to give us the evidence he has and everybody else.”

Kambi who spoke at the funeral threatened to resign if police fail to arrest and prosecute the people who plotted Muchai’s murder, saying he knows them very well.

“If those who killed Muchai will not be arrested because we know them, I am prepared to resign,” Kambi said. “I am prepared to quit if they are left to walk free!”

Several other leaders including Gatundu North legislator Moses Kuria urged the police to expedite their investigation and pointed an accusing finger at unnamed COTU officials.

COTU officials have since said it will be filing a suit in court on Monday next week against Kambi, Kuria and any other leader claiming they are responsible for the deaths.

Four suspects, including three arrested on Friday, are being held over the four killings.

One of them who was arrested last week week was arraigned in court on Friday but no charges were read to him after police asked for two more weeks to finalize the probe.

Nkaissery on Friday announced that police have recovered a G3 rifle used in the murder and a pistol stolen from one of his slain bodyguards.
