State Counsel Duncan Ondimu told the court that police needed 22 days to complete their investigations.
NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 16 – Six suspects arrested over the killing of Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai appeared before court Monday, where police filed an application seeking more time to detain them.
Principal Magistrate Benson Nzakyo granted the request and directed the suspects to appear in court on March 10 for further directions.
The four men and two women will be detained at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
The six are Erick Munyera Isabwa alias Chairman, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani Anyonyi, Stephen Asitiva alias Chokora, Jane Wanjiru alias Shiro and Margret Njeri Wachiori.
The court was told the investigating team needs more time “to be able to identify all persons that may have fallen victim of violent robberies committed by the respondents and be able to conduct identification parades by the said victims.”
The late Muchai was shot dead alongside his two bodyguards and driver during an ambush on Kenyatta Avenue a week ago.
Police have since recovered a G3 rifle used in the killings and a pistol stolen from one of the bodyguards.
The pistol was found intact, with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The killings elicited a huge public outcry with some leaders claiming they already knew why the legislator was killed.
During Muchai’s burial on February 13, Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi publicly announced that he knew powerful people behind the killing of the former Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Deputy Secretary General, his two bodyguards and a driver.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has since directed Kambi to record a statement with the police on what he knows about the killings.
“It is very unfair for somebody’s name to be mentioned in a murder case if there is no concrete evidence,” Nkaissery stated. “I would wish that if Kambi is aware of the killers of the four individuals, we invite him and demand he writes a statement.”
Kambi who spoke at the funeral threatened to resign if police fail to arrest and prosecute the people who plotted Muchai’s murder, saying he knows them very well.
“If those who killed Muchai will not be arrested because we know them, I am prepared to resign,” Kambi said.
“I am prepared to quit if they are left to walk free!”
