Speaker Muturi ordered the MPs out of the House for the specified period/FILE
The suspension means that the three are barred from the precincts of Parliament, attending any House and Committee sittings and will therefore forfeit allowances until they resume sittings next Wednesday.
Ainamoi MP Benjamin Langat kicked off the process after he requested Speaker Justin Muturi to name the MPs over the chaos that was experienced in the National Assembly during the debate on the controversial law last year.
‘Naming’ is a Parliamentary procedure that comes with sanctions including suspension from participating in House business for up to 28 days.
Following Langat’s request, Nakuru East MP David Gikaria asked for the MPs to be suspended from Parliament, a motion that was supported by 111 MPs while 52 opposed.
Speaker Muturi ordered the MPs out of the House for the specified period.
During the December 18 chaotic sitting, Mbadi was seen tearing pieces of paper and scattering them on the floor; Wanga emptied a bottle of water on Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso.
However an attempt by CORD MPs to have similar action taken on six Jubilee Coalition MPs who assaulted Senators Moses Wetangula, James Orengo, Johnson Muthama and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo was defeated with a 69-63 vote.
Seme MP James Nyikal wanted MPs Elijah Langat, Muthomi Njuki, Joseph Kiuna, Kimani Ngunjiri, Alice Nganga and Moses Kuria to face similar sanctions.
