NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 25 – The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has directed the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Director of Criminal Investigations to take immediate action against Nandis Hill Member of Parliament Alfred Keter.
This is after a video clip went viral on social media on Sunday, in which Keter is seen at the Gigil Weighbridge demanding the police release a detained vehicle. He is accompanied by URP nominated MP Sonia Birdi.
“He has directed that immediate action be taken against him in accordance with the law,” an officer working with at the DPP’s office told Capital FM News.
In the video footage which has widely been circulated on social media, Keter is seen hurling insults to police officers at the Weighbridge.
“We are the Government…the County commissioner, the OCPD has called but no one answered…who do you think you are?” he is heard asking.
Despite the efforts by the police officer to explain they were acting on the law, the MP could not hear a single word.
“We will reverse the law… who is the owner of this company?” he is heard asking the officials there. “We are waiting to hear from whom? …Jesus Christ to call you?”
He is heard alleging that senior government officials had tried to contact the weighbridge for the same without success.
“Whoever has that contract will lose it…I don’t fight small battles…you will lose your jobs tomorrow.”
The move has resulted to a public outcry on social media with even some of his counterparts expressing anger.
