NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 12 – A responsibility to the fashion community was the excuse Victoria Beckham gave to Vogue magazine for not smiling in a video they released on Thursday.

But the thought of visiting Kenya, out of all the countries in the world, makes the fashion icon, “smile on the inside.”

“I’d love to go to Kenya,” she told her Vogue.com interviewer on a tour of her newly opened clothing store in London.

Six words that couldn’t have come at a better time for Kenya; the tourism industry having been hard hit by acts of terror which have resulted in travel advisories from the United States, the United Kingdom and other European countries.

And so the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) did not fail to capitalise on the endorsement and Victoria Beckham’s over eight million followers.

“Kenya will be glad to host you @victoriabeckham – We appreciate your choice of Kenya as a destination,” the PSCU tweeted on Monday together with a link to the video.

Fellow style icon Naomi Campbell regularly vacations in the country and last year met with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and pledged to support her Beyond Zero initiative.

Other style icons associated with the country include Somali-born Iman, the supermodel and cosmetics firm founder, discovered while studying Political Science at the University of Nairobi.

Kenyan also boasts Ajuma Nasenyana who went on to model for such brand names as Baby Phat, Ungaro and Vivienne Westwood following her debut as Miss Tourism Nairobi in 2003.

In 2010 Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in an isolated cabin in Kenya and perhaps more profoundly, it was in Kenya that Queen Elizabeth went up a tree a princess and came down the ruler of an empire when in 1952 her father King George VI died.

Most certainly, a visit from Victoria Beckham would put Kenya back en vogue.
