HIV+ mothers enlisted as mentors in campaign

Disclosure that, Mike says, could have saved their family a world of hurt.

There are currently 1.6 million Kenyans living with the HIV virus according to the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP) with 58 percent of them being women.

“And by 2015,” Wangeci says, “we want beyond zero transmission of HIV from mother to child.”

There are currently 190,000 children between the ages of 0 and 14 living with the HIV virus with 13,000 new infections in 2013.
