Body in Eldoret morgue not Yebei’s: DNA

MESHACK-YEBEINAIROBI, Kenya Jan 22 – DNA results released on Thursday morning have shown that the body thought to be that of ICC witness Meshack Yebei belong to Yusuf Hussein of Kaimosi.

A senior police officer involved in the investigation has told Capital FM News that Hussein’s family will be allowed to take it away for burial.

“It is not Yebei, there is no doubt at all because the DNA results are out,” CID director Ndegwa Muhoro said, “The DNA has matched that of Yusuf Hussein.”

The results had been handed over to the Divisional CID headquarters in Eldoret for onward transmission to Nairobi.

Police had earlier ruled out the possibility of the body belonging to Yebei after finger print sample tests turned negative.

Yebei’s family however, insist the body belong to their kin who went missing after an alleged abduction as he took his child to hospital in December 2014.

Hussein is also reported to have gone missing sometimes last month.

Deputy President William Ruto’s lawyer Karim Khan had demanded a thorough investigation into Yebei’s disappearance, saying his death will deal a major blow to his defense on the Deputy President.

And following accusations leveled against the ICC prosecution that it might have had a hand in Yebei’s disappearance or killing, its chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda came out strongly, and dismissed the accusation saying Yebei was not even on the court’s protection having declined the offer.
