MPs Gideon Konchella (Kilgoris), Soipan Tuya (Narok County Woman Representative) and Aramat Lemaken (Narok East) said the Senator Stephen ole Ntutu-led group are fighting to control resources of the county and are using crude ways to try and remove Tunai from office.
“It is unfortunate that some leaders would incite peace loving residents to the extent of misadvising them to engage in criminal acts of attacking police officers who were on duty,” Tuya said.
She added that it is unacceptable that a set of leaders have taken to inciting some residents of Narok along partisan and private interests fashioned along clan divisions on false claims of corruption against Tunai’s administration.
Senator Ntutu and four other legislators defied police and led protestors to Tunai’s office where they demanded that he receive the petition seeking his removal in person, but police shot in the air to disperse the crowd.
They accused Tunai of employing ‘outsiders’ in the county government and failing to address a 4,000-acre irregular land allocation at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The protesters gave the Narok Governor 21 days to respond to the allegations.
But the group led by Konchella hit back, saying the office of the Auditor-General and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had been sent to Narok to investigate the graft claims, which Tunai has defended himself against.
Konchella and Lemaken urged their colleagues to use constitutional processes if they want to remove Tunai from office and asked Senator Ntutu to take responsibility for the demonstration that left two people dead and several injured after protesters clashed with the police.
“Our colleagues who are legislators, and they make law should use the legal means of removing and punishing those who have committed any wrong, and we are there to support them if proved,” said the Kilgoris MP.
Lemaken added: ” We don’t want people to tell Kenyans that you cannot overthrow governors in other ways other what is provided for in law.”
At the same time, Senate Committee on Finance Chairman Billow Kerrow say the report on the petition on the alleged misappropriation of funds in Narok County will be ready by next week.
The committee on Tuesday morning heard from the petitioner and will hear from Governor Tunai on Wednesday along with a private company which has been contracted to manage fees at the Maasai Mara National Park.
“The petitioner himself is a very respectable old man who has investigated and researched well, and he thinks as a resident of Narok that there is money being lost and he has brought evidence in that regard.
