NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 22 – Nairobians have been assured of adequate security during this festive season.

Speaking during a review of the security measures put in place to ensure safety of Kenyans, Nairobi County Commander Benson Kibue, says police will be stationed in areas occasioned by revellers.

“Social places will have so many revellers and as they do, we want police presence to be seen and strategically placed to ensure that as people socialize their security is assured,” he stated.

“Plans are in place to ensure those visiting shopping malls feel safe and secure, while those using Public Service Vehicles do not fall prey to carjacking.”

Matatu and bus drivers have also been advised to only pick up and drop passengers at the designated termini as it has been noted that carjackers board these vehicles along the way in order to avoid the police.

“All shopping malls should be taken care of and frisking should be carried out, bus operators should also do the same to avoid being hijacked enroute to their destination,” Kibue said.

Nairobi residents have been advised to take extra precautions before leaving their homes for their preferred travel destinations.

They have been urged to leave the addresses and details of the caretakers and watchmen being left behind to care for their houses and property.

This is being done for the purpose of accountability as some of them have been known to collaborate with criminals.

Kibue assured Kenyans that no police is on leave during this period and therefore they should not worry about their security as they go about their festivities.
