NAIROBI, Kenya – A police officer was on Sunday night shot dead by suspected thugs and robbed of his gun in a robbery incident in Dandora.

The officer who was a corporal attached to a local Administration Police post was in the company of three others and had tried to arrest a suspect for questioning when he was shot.

The deceased and his colleagues were on patrol in the area when they came across a gang of three that was mugging and robbing residents.

“There was a scuffle when the officer was trying to arrest a suspect who was terrorizing passers-by. During the incident, the suspect whipped out his gun and shot the officer at close range. We are doing everything we can to arrest those who were involved in the incident,” Police Spokeswoman Zipporah Mboroki said.

A major manhunt was launched in the area but no arrest or recovery was made.

In another incident, a woman was shot and seriously wounded by police in a shooting incident in Kayole.
She was rushed to the Mama Lucy Hospital where she has been admitted.

Police said the thugs managed to escape and that efforts to arrest them had been intensified.
