Nominated Senator Naisula Lesuuda who is the deputy chairperson of the association said the First Lady is an inspiration for millions of Kenyans/PSCU
The First Lady met leaders of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) at State House Tuesday where the MPs said that they want to be more involved in the campaign to show their appreciation for her initiative.
The MPs who were accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Anne Waiguru were led by the chairperson of KEWOPA Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes MP).
“We want to be more involved in your initiatives and we also need to chart more areas of cooperation,” said Mbarire.
Siaya Women Representative Christine Ombaka said the First Lady’s campaign against maternal mortality touches the hearts of many people.
“It is an international issue and it is a concern especially for us in Nyanza area where maternal mortality rates are very high,” she said.
Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua said women appreciate the numerous policies targeted at women that have been initiated by the government.
“The President is working very closely with women and we also appreciate the role you are playing in this country,” she said.
Nominated Senator Naisula Lesuuda who is the deputy chairperson of the association said the First Lady is an inspiration for millions of Kenyans.
“You have led by example and you an inspiration to millions of women. You will see many us joining you in the upcoming First Lady’s Marathon,” she said.
The First Lady thanked the women MPs for showing their solidarity with her campaign and promised to involve them more in its implementation.
“I appreciate your support and be assured that I will also support you,” said the First Lady.
The First Lady also agreed to be the chief guest at the launch of KEWOPA’s strategic plan before the end of the year.
KEWOPA has a membership of 89 MPs and one of its roles is advocacy and policy briefings to Parliament on legislations affecting women.
It also participates in the technical team on the actualization of the two-thirds gender principle.
The ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign plans to donate a fully equipped mobile clinic to all the 47 counties and has so far donated 11.
The First Lady will hand over the 12th mobile clinic to Siaya County on Wednesday – PSCU.
