It appeared the late Kajwang’ would attend one last political rally before he was laid to rest as fellow legislators took to the stage turning the prayer service to government bashing over insecurity.
“We have lost one of us—who was a frequent contributor on the floor of the House—we are telling the young people to stand by and keep in mind that the struggle is on, even with the death of Kajwang’ it is still on course,” Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula said.
CORD leader Raila Odinga described Kajwang’ as a selfless person who died a not-so-wealthy person as would be expected of a member of the political class because he was a generous person.
“He was a polite person, loved people and more so very generous—whenever he said, let us do this he stood by that—that was the kind of person Kajwang’ was,” said Odinga.
Members of the public were expected to view the body but the programme had to be cancelled due to the rowdiness of the crowd that throughout the prayer service proved hard to contain.

Earlier in the morning, a requiem mass was held at the Maxwell SDA Church where those present were urged to emulate the ways of Kajwang’ in his association with people of different political affiliations.
“The difference of opinion does not mean we are enemies, we are all Kenyans, that we need to hold each other because we are all God’s children: the family of God, may the words that will come out of our mouth strengthen this nation so that we may be together as a nation as we forge forward—that we may continue to love each other as Gerald demonstrated that we may differ in opinion but remain as one people,” said the Presiding Minister.
During the service, Kajwang’s casket was covered with the Orange Democratic Movement banner written ‘Chungwa moja maisha bora’, and a huge bouquet of flowers comprising roses and carnations.
Also notably present during the mass was his estranged wife Faith Atieno and her two children.
The body will be airlifted to Kisumu from the Wilson airport Thursday morning, to pave way for another prayer service at the Homabay Stadium where the public will be allowed to view the body before his burial on Friday in his rural home.
