Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, MPs Paul Otuoma and Florence Mutua turned down the new positions, arguing that the list of officials was forced upon them.
“It’s our conviction that the manner the process was conducted does not reflect the will of the members of the ODM family and therefore it would be egocentric for us to take up these positions merely for purposes of personal aggrandizement,” the three said in statement on Monday evening.
“Merely handpicking individuals for party positions does not address the fundamental, underlying issues that the party has to resolve first.”
According to the list, Oparanya was to be the second deputy party leader, Otuoma was one of four vice chairmen while Mutua was one of four deputy organising secretaries.
Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba, who leads one camp in ODM, was designated the secretary-general.
