NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 24 – Nairobi County Senator Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko now claims his Twitter account has been hacked by malicious individuals who have posted vulgar tweets since Sunday.

Sonko cried foul following the vile tweets on his @MikeSonko Twitter handle targeted at the government after the Mandera attack where 28 people were killed by Al Shabaab militia.

“My Twitter account has been hacked—hackers insulting the government pretending to be me,” Sonko said in a text message.

The ‘Sonko’ tweets did not bear any kind words on the security chiefs who have lately come under heavy criticism over the recurring cases of insecurity in various parts of the country, with most bearing curse words.

“Ole Lenku, IG Kimaiyo and Julius Karangi are euphemisms for incompetence. #Anonymous,” read one of the tweets referring to Interior and Cordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku, Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo and Chief of Defense Forces Gen Julius Karangi.

The tweets are further calling for the resignation of the security chiefs with more direct insults aimed at Kimaiyo and Lenku.

The hacker signed off as #Anonymous in one of the tweets, a similar signature to a notorious group that has in the past taken control of several government accounts and websites both in Kenya and elsewhere across the globe.

The hacker group says it’s spreading a message to the citizens otherwise referred to as ‘hacktivism’ by hacking into the accounts and websites of organisations and personalities.

In July, the same hacker gained access into the country’s military page where they launched an attack on the government and the military.

During the same period, another account run by the military liaison officer, Maj. Emmanuel Chirchir, was also hacked.

Senator Mike Sonko is yet to get control of the account.
