The leaders affirmed they were firmly in ODM/MIKE KARIUKI
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Budalangi’ MP Ababu Namwamba, Kilifi North Member of Parliament Gideon Mung’aro and ODM Executive Director Magerer Lang’at were holed up in a two-and-a-half hour secret meeting which they insist was set up to discuss development issues.
“There is no reason to keep your eyebrows raised; there is no reason to go into a state of hysteria, paranoia or panic when you see brothers meeting – especially brothers who are obsessed about development and cohesion of this country – then you should know that it is in the best interest of the country,” Namwamba later told journalists.
While reiterating that they were firmly in ODM, the leaders say they were comparing notes on the issues that ail the country and proposing solutions with Magerer further reiterating that he was firmly in ODM.
“I am in ODM, and I will speak to you in two days time. We have not left the party… don’t we have a right to meet in public places just like you have all gathered here. Is there an issue?” Magerer posed.
Namwamba expressed dismay over media reports implying there was a hidden agenda in the nature of their meetings.
“I just do not understand this over-excitement about ODM or about CORD – Ababu Namwamba, Alfred Mutua, Gideon Mung’aro and Magerer Lang’at… we are all members of the CORD family and we are firmly within the CORD family with both feet,” he added.
The four have been labelled rebels and jubilee sympathisers and are purported to be forming a break-away party.
Mung’aro was ousted by the CORD coalition as the National Assembly Minority Whip in July while Mutua has been accused of working with the Jubilee Coalition. Namwamba has been labelled a mole and the latest is Lang’at who forcefully ejected from the party offices for statements he allegedly made against CORD leader Raila Odinga.
