NYANDARUA, Kenya, Nov 26 – Eight people were killed in an accident Tuesday night involving two vehicles on the Njabini-Engineer road in Nyandarua County.

Four others were admitted to the Kijabe Mission Hospital with injuries sustained during the 7.45pm mishap.

Among the survivors are a mother and her one-and-a-half year-old child.

The driver of the pick-up and another occupant also survived the crash.

The eight who were travelling in the four-wheel drive vehicle died on the spot.

According to Nyandarua County Commander Hamisi Mabeya, the occupants of the SUV were travelling from Murang’a after attending a funeral and were heading back to their home at Kanamba, Gathara Ward in Kinangop South district.

He said the victims are members of the Vision In Christ Church.

“It is upon nearing Engineer town that the two vehicles collided head on. We are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident as the road has normally low traffic but we have some information indicating that there was a donkey that was crossing the road at the time,” he said.

Mabeya said the mother and child were also in the SUV.

The pick-up driver and his occupant sustained serious fractures.

The commandant said that residents who arrived at the scene moments after the accident removed the survivors from the wreckage of the two vehicles.
