MOMBASA, Kenya, Nov 6 – Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho says he will cooperate with investigators following recommendation for a fresh probe into the authenticity of his Kampala University degree.

In statement to newsrooms, Joho says although there is no legal basis of re-opening the case after it was dismissed by the courts, he will cooperate with detectives in the fresh probe.

Joho maintains his degree is genuine.

DPP Keriako Tobiko has asked CID director Ndegwa Muhoro to re-open the investigation previously closed for lack of evidence.

In his letter to the CID, Tobiko said that he has received fresh information which he thinks forms a basis for a fresh probe.

Joho said he had instructed his lawyers to respond to any queries from the Criminal Investigation Department.

“We find absolutely no legal basis of reopening the matter in view of the fact that there have been no new findings or facts known to us that support such a decision,” Joho argued.

“Now that the matter has been communicated to the Director of CID, we have no problem whatsoever and my lawyers and I will fully accord cooperation to the investigators,” he pledged.

He expressed confidence that he shall once again be vindicated as has happened before in both Kenyan and Ugandan courts as long as the investigations are conducted objectively and in accordance with the law.

“I would like to urge my supporters and the people of Mombasa to be calm and not worry. This will not disrupt my mission and focus for quality service delivery to the residents of Mombasa County. I am positive that I will once again be cleared of these allegations and justice shall prevail,” said Joho.
