NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1 – The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was on Saturday closed indefinitely following students riots since Friday.

Students went on with the protests on Saturday morning, even blocking sections of Thika Road before the administration announced the indefinite closure of the campus.

The students were given an hour to vacate the campus.

The students were protesting a new policy that required those with fees balances to clear them by 4pm on Friday, failure to which they were required to leave.

“You have until 03.59 pm today top clear all your fees arrears failure to which you are advised to take an academic leave. This is according to the new fees policy which came into effect early this semester,” the policy stated.

Most students complained that the notice to clear the fees balance was too short and feared it could lock them from sitting the end of semester examinations.
