NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 6 – The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate Pastor Victor Kanyari, following an exposé by the Kenya Television Network (KTN) on Sunday.

The DPP wants Kanyari investigated to ascertain whether he has been obtaining money by false pretences, cheating and other acts that contradict law and order.

A tweet from the DPP’s office said: “DPPorders Pst.Kanyari be probed 4 crimes of obtaining by false pretences;cheating, etc after expose by KTN.”

Some of Kanyari’s assistants admitted that some of the sick people had sent as much as Sh60,000 in order to be healed.

Kanyari’s episode reminded Kenyans of his mother Lucy Nduta of Salvation Healing Ministries who was jailed for two years by a Kiambu court for defrauding six HIV positive people.

Nduta had obtained Sh1.6 million from the six claiming that she would cure them of HIV.

Kanyari’s expose has also brought into focus the miracle baby saga in which renowned ‘miracle baby’ pastor Gilbert Deya told followers he had powers to make elderly women get babies by a touch of his hands.

The smuggled babies were given to elderly women telling them they were the miracle babies that God had given to them after Deya’s prayers.

A UK court however ruled in favour of pastor Deya while a Kenyan court found his wife guilty.
