The latest case involves a hospital staff member who came down with a fever on Tuesday and was isolated at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.
The person’s identity was not revealed by health authorities, but follows the diagnosis Sunday of nurse Nina Pham, who had been closely involved in the care of Thomas Eric Duncan between September 28 and October 8, when he died.
“Health officials have interviewed the latest patient to quickly identify any contacts or potential exposures, and those people will be monitored,” the Texas Department of State Health Services said in a statement.
A test to confirm the presence of the virus is being done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“As we have said before, because of our ongoing investigation, it is not unexpected that there would be additional exposures,” the CDC said in a statement.
The CDC on Tuesday said it was monitoring 76 health care workers who were involved in Duncan’s care or who had handled his blood specimens at the Dallas hospital where he was admitted.
