KISUMU, Kenya, Oct 23 – The Kisumu County Assembly has now advertised the position of the Speaker in the local dailies following the removal of Ann Atieno Adul from office on Tuesday.

Interim Clerk Owen Ojuok indicated in an advertisement that the assembly wishes to recruit a competent and qualified person to fill the position of Speaker.

“Interested and qualified persons should send their application, CV, copies of academic and professional certificates and testimonials to reach the undersigned by 4th November 2014,” the advertisement read.

Applicants will also be required to submit a clearance certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Credit Reference Bureau, a certificate of good conduct from the CID and tax compliance from the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Adul was impeached on Tuesday following the approval of a motion by Members of the County Assembly accusing her of gross misconduct that included amongst other things depositing the mace at the local police station.

She was also accused of blocking reports from the public accounts committee and public investment committee investigating allegations of misappropriation of funds in her office.

Thirty nine members of the assembly approved her impeachment, three others voted in her favour while six others abstained from voting.

The assembly on Wednesday elected unopposed Kondele ward representative Gabriel Ochieng to be the Temporary Speaker.
Ochieng had served in the Speaker’s panel before he was removed.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the impeached speaker had moved to the industrial court to reverse her impeachment.
