NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 18 – President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday at State House, Nairobi held talks with General Lazarus Sumbeiywo and Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin of Ethiopia, who briefed him on the status of the South Sudan peace negotiations.

The Kenyan envoy to the South Sudan peace process and his Ethiopian counterpart assured President Kenyatta that a lot of progress has been made in the efforts to restore peace in Africa’s youngest nation.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel and the negotiations have entered the final stages where we hope for positive outcome,” Gen Sumbeiywo said.

President Kenyatta commended Gen. Sumbeiywo and Amb Mesfin for their diligence. He affirmed Kenya’s commitment to a speedy resolution of the South Sudan conflict.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.
