NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Baringo County Assembly Speaker Kassait Kamket has been arrested in ongoing investigations into recent attacks in the area.

Kassait was detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday night while travelling to Istanbul, Turkey.

Kassait confirmed his arrest through Facebook.

“This is to let all friends, comrades, compatriots and gallant sons and daughters of Tiaty and Baringo County that the forces of evil have conspired to successfully have me arrested tonight at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. I am now detained here. God knows what next. I urge all the people of goodwill to join me in prayer so as to defeat this evil conspiracy. Together we shall emerge out of this stronger than ever before. God bless,” he posted.

The arrest came as leaders from the county were expected to apply for anticipatory bail at the High Court in Eldoret after they were linked to the attacks by police chief David Kimaiyo.

Kimaiyo wants the leaders arrested for questioning over the attacks in Kapedo where police officers were killed last week.

A massive operation in the area has seen police recover guns stolen from three officers attacked to the GSU elite squad who were killed during the attack on October 20.

Two civilians were also killed during the raid.

The officers were stripped of their uniforms and their firearms taken away.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since condemned the attack saying no one will be spared if found culpable.

“As the Government moves to deal with the criminals, local leaders and residents must also play their part in ensuring security in their localities,” he stated.

“We must always remember that security is a shared responsibility, and that each and every Kenyan must remain their brothers and sisters keeper.”

President Kenyatta said: “Attacks on the State and the security forces of the Republic of Kenya are a threat to our stability and undermine the epitome of authority in all civilized society, the world over.”

He warned that such attacks are, “inconceivable, unacceptable and will not be tolerated at any cost, by my administration.”

“We will not accept any pretext, including the excuse of cattle rustling to harm our forces, our people or destroy property anywhere in this country.”
