NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 23 – At least four people were shot and seriously wounded after a meeting to discuss the ouster of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana turned chaotic in Wote town.

Those wounded include Kibwana’s chief of staff, a bodyguard and two county officials who were allegedly shot when the county assembly’s security personnel opened fire to disperse a charged crowd.

Trouble is said to have started when a group of youths reportedly stormed the meeting of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) that was allegedly planning the governor’s ouster.

Those wounded have been rushed to hospital, some with serious injuries sustained during the fracas.

Kibwana has condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
