KWALE, Kenya, Sep 29 – A CORD rally in Kinango was on Monday interrupted after an elderly man stormed the meeting and attacked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.

The man walked towards the former premier and started attacking him using a walking stick as the leaders were dancing at the podium.

Witnesses said the old man managed to hit both Odinga and Mvurya with the stick before he was subdued and whisked away by bodyguards.

The leaders had to call off the dance as aides wrestle the man before they released him after detaining him shortly.

The incident disrupted the meeting that was attended by Senator Juma Boy, Hassan Omar, Agnes Zani, James Orengo, Johnson Muthama and MP Hassan Mwanyoa among others.

Another rally in Mwangulu in Lunga Lunga was also disrupted after youths heckled local MP Khatib Mwashetani during the OKOA Kenya rally.

Mwashetani who was elected on a Ford Kenya ticket and has openly opposed the referendum calls was forced to cut short his speech and leave the venue.

On Sunday ODM rebel MPs snubbed the launch of referendum campaign in Malindi and Kilifi.

The leaders led by Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, Malindi MP Dan Kazungu, Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa, Ganze MP Peter Shehe and Kilifi South Mustafa Idd boycotted Sunday’s rally.
