TNA National Chairman Johnson Sakaja described it as ‘a show of intolerance which is appalling.’
He stated that the country has come a long way in entrenching political rights, freedom of expression and democratic space gains which should not be lost.
“We strongly condemn the show of political intolerance displayed in Migori during a function attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Migori Governor Okoth Obado and several other leaders from the region. We are deeply perturbed and appalled at the lack of respect that was shown through the acts of clearly choreographed hooliganism that took place in the presence of no less than the Head of State,” he said.
He pointed out that the country has come a long way as it seeks to entrench political rights, freedom of expression and democratic space and that these gains should not be lost due to politics.

He urged all Kenyans to be tolerant of each other especially those who are in opposition to them.
“We appeal to all Kenyans, and specifically our supporters, to exercise political maturity and tolerance and allow all leaders, including and especially our political opponents the respect they deserve as they traverse the country addressing meetings and collecting signatures,” he said.
He also called on political leaders from all sides to desist from misusing the youth to settle political scores.
ODM Secretretary General, Anyang Nyong’o on his part reiteratedSakaja’s sentiments while condemning the behavior and stating that the President should be given the respect he deserves.
“I have just watched on news regarding the fracas that occurred in Migori during His Excellency the President’s tour of the county today. On behalf of the ODM and the people of Kenya as a whole, I would like to condemn this type of behaviour and to plead to our people to always give the President the respect he deserves,” he said in a statement.
Migori Governor Okoth Obado was on Monday shouted down by area residents at a function attended by President Kenyatta.
He was heckled and shoes thrown towards the presidential dais forcing the President to intervene.
Suna West Member of Parliament Joseph Ndiege had earlier addressed the crowd in vernacular as he unsuccessfully tried to calm them down when they declined to be addressed by Obado.
Obado who is perceived to enjoy support from the ruling Jubilee Coalition has recently expressed opposition to the push for a referendum led by the CORD leader Raila Odinga.
