“There are women out there who have never ever tested. They wouldn’t know whether pre cancer is in their body or if it is cancer that developing. And once it has become cervical cancer or invasive cancer, the treatment is surgery, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. All those therapies cost money,” she explained.
According to Kithaka, screening for cervical cancer is painless. She describes it as discomfort that lasts for less than five minutes.
“It’s a very non invasive screening test. I keep asking ladies, we are known to wear high heels and they are very uncomfortable, if you knew that the test you are doing – the pap smear test – is going to make a difference in your life, wouldn’t you bear that five minutes discomfort?” she queried.
