He called for commitment and effort from all to root out the menace.
Underscoring the need to unite in addressing challenges, President Kenyatta urged Kenyans to join hands in overcoming hurdles in development.
“This country needs all of us to work together to achieve our development targets,” President Kenyatta said.
He cited youth unemployment and insecurity as Kenya’s greatest challenges. But said the Jubilee Government is tackling the issues and “there is no room for despair.”
The President was speaking on Thursday when he joined other Christians for praise and worship at a congregation organized by Rev Teresia Wairimu’s Faith Evangelistic Ministry in Nairobi.
On unemployment, President Kenyatta said the youth have a lot of potential and the role of Government and other actors is to create opportunities for them. His call to Kenyans was never to despair.
The President praised Kenyans, saying they have a unique way of praising God despite their diversity.
To leaders, he pointed out that leadership is an opportunity from God to serve the people.
“I am neither the first nor the last,” President Kenyatta said.
Speaking during the occasion, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said Kenya is a diverse country and deserves peace and unity.
He asked Kenyans not to be pessimistic and view matters positively.
“Let us look at matters as a glass that is ‘half full’ rather than ‘half empty’. Let us build hope and gratefulness instead of hopelessness and desperation,” Kidero said.
The Nairobi Governor asked churches to pray that Kenya has hope and gratefulness and not hopelessness.
Reverend Wairimu described the President’s visit to the United States for the US-Africa leaders’ summit as a success, adding that he made Kenya proud.
