Mutua pointed out that his deputy failed to perform the task that he had assigned him and as a result Kiala would now remain as the deputy governor without portfolio.
He however said they, “will respect the Senate and will uphold the decision by the Senate on the impeachment process of the Deputy Governor of Machakos, Bernard Kiala.”
The Machakos governor indicated that he had consulted various leaders in the County and they had resolved to shelve the bid to impeach Kiala. He said the county residents should instead focus on the ongoing developments in the area.
“We urge the people of Machakos and Kenyans in general to ignore the various manufactured allegations made against the Government of Machakos County because there are false, malicious and coming from sources whose agenda is to enhance corruption and slow down our development agenda,” he stated.
“We could not have achieved the great and amazing development programs if we were not right. The results of corruption and anomalies are not development but lack of progress, poverty and backwardness. Machakos is the reverse within a very short period.”
The Deputy Governor on Friday escaped impeachment after Senators rejected a report by a special committee that had been formed to review allegations presented by the Machakos County Assembly.

A total of 17 Senators, a majority from Cord, voted in support of the Deputy Governor while five voted for impeachment.
The vote was almost put off after Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro said there was no quorum.
But the 15 Senators in the House at 9pm demanded that the voting takes place.
The House then took a break for an hour to allow Jubilee to whip its members back to take part in the vote that was concluded shortly after 11pm.
Mutua said his action was prompted by his deputy’s inability, “to perform his duties properly and as per my expectation as the Governor who nominated him as my running mate, as well as to the expectations of the taxpayers and the people of this County.”
“As a result, I have today removed the heavy burden of a portfolio responsibility from him.”
