NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 7 – New Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Thursday urged politicians across the political divide to stop politicising security matters in the country. Addressing the media after being sworn-in, Kuria said he was ready to work with all parties to ensure Kenya is secure.

“We will require an environment of peace and security. An environment devoid of the kind of noise we have witnessed; the sideshows. I pray that on matters of peace and security we should not have the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) or Jubilee. When we face threats, it comes to a time when it doesn’t matter where you stand whether in government or Opposition,” he said.

In appreciation to the people of Gatundu South especially the candidates who stepped out of the race leaving him as the sole contestant, Kuria said it was a demonstration of maturity in politics. “If anyone had doubts who the people of Gatundu South are, the events and the process that culminated in the process of my swearing-in today is a manifestation of our maturity, our unity and our sense of purpose,” he said. Kuria pledged to do everything possible within his capacity as the MP and a Kenyan leader to ensure that the country achieves its goals of giving citizens a better life.

He said he will also work very closely with the Opposition and the government to ensure the Uhuru administration delivers its pledges to Kenyans. “I feel the weight of expectations of the people of Gatundu South consistency and people of this country.

I will do everything to meet their expectations.” The MP dismissed allegations that there was pressure from State House that forced his competitors to step out of the race. According to him, the candidates explained their reasons for pulling out of the election which would have been conducted on Thursday by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Kuria became the second MP in Kenya to be sworn-in without an election after Gideon Moi became Baringo Central MP 12 years ago.
