NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 5 – Airtel Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to support Kipeto Primary School in Kajiado County by donating furniture to pupils and teachers of the institution.

In line with Airtel’s “Our School” Social Responsibility initiatives, Airtel has committed to renovate old-wing classrooms.

This will be an addition to the six classrooms that Airtel built three years ago. Airtel is also working towards a water sustainability project through the rehabilitation of a borehole that will provide clean water to the school and the neighbouring community. The support focuses on uplifting the standard of the school’s education system in the institution.

In a statement from the company, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said, “Airtel is fully committed to addressing the development needs of the communities in Kenya. It is with this in mind that we have today supported the school’s pupils and teachers with furniture that will help improve the quality of learning and ultimately contribute positively to the performance of the teachers as they continue to impact knowledge to the pupils. Airtel will continue to support the institution based on their needs in future.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the School was the Headmaster Joseph Matura who thanked Airtel for the timely gesture urging the pupils and the administration to take good care of the furniture.

“On behalf of the school, I’d like to thank Airtel for all they have been doing for this school. The support will motivate the pupils to be willing to learn, and teachers as well to have a good office that will enable them to perform their duties effectively. Airtel’s support for the last 3 years has made parents feel inclined to enrol their children in the school. The school currently has 400 pupils and we believe the number will grow in the coming years,” Matura noted.

In 2012, Airtel Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education that enabled Airtel to support the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure at Kipeto Primary School.

Through the MOU, Airtel has supported the school through the construction of washroom facilities, construction and renovation of 4 classrooms and a borehole that has been of help to the school and the community in general.
