The Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo through a speech read by spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said the operation which was being led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Samuel Arachi will ensure the area return to normalcy.
“These suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are finalised,” she stated.
Mboroki also said police were investigating the source of leaflets with threatening and intimidating messages against the people.
“I want to state that this incident is being investigated and those people who are engaged in production and circulation of all such messages will be prosecuted,” she warned.
“I further wish to state that our action on leaflets distribution will extend to all other counties of the country where such criminal acts are perpetrated,” the spokeswoman said as she urged the public not to theirhomes but rather to pass on information to the relevant authorities for immediate action.
Additional officers have been deployed to Hindi in Lamu to assist in the hunt for gunmen behind Monday night’s attack on a Kenya Police Reserve Camp just days after 12 people were killed in a raid in the area.
Robert Kitur, a senior officer involved in the operation, told Capital FM News that they suspect the gunmen behind Monday’s attack are linked to Saturday’s raid.
He said the gunmen were heavily armed and engaged officers on the scene in a gun battle before eventually overpowering them and going on to torch offices and vehicles in the camp located within Amu ranch.
The number of casualties is yet to be established.
Monday night’s attack followed the killing of over 20 people in Lamu and Tana Counties on Saturday by suspected members of the Mombasa Republican Council.
