This follows an application by a team of lawyers led by James Orengo who convinced the magistrate that the earlier amount was too high for the blogger.
Senior Principal Magistrate Anna Ndungu alternatively allowed Odongo to post a Sh2 million surety bond from the initial Sh5 million.
The blogger has been at the Industrial Area Prison Remand since last week when he was charged with intent to stir ethnic animosity through remarks he posted on his Facebook page over the Lamu killings.
