AG tells off ICC prosecution over demands for Uhuru documents

“Kenya has a comprehensive legal system. It may come as a surprise. Kenya Revenue Authority provided documents…there is a limit as far as government is concerned in disclosure of private tax and other legally protected information and we must work with the consent and approval of the defence of such matters,” the AG explained.

Kenyatta’s lawyer criticised the prosecution’s request and termed them as ‘irrelevant’ to the case facing his client.

During the emotionally charged conference, Victims Legal Representative Fergal Gaynor accused the Government of Kenya of non cooperation and Kenyatta for ‘obstruction’ of the justice.

He alleged that Kenyatta being the president was in charge of the National Intelligence Service and therefore he was unwilling to have information on him submitted to the ICC.

He told the court that Kenya should be reported to the UN Security Council over what he described of lack of political will in cooperating with the court.

The prosecution was given up to July 11 and Kenyatta’s defence up to July 16 to give their submissions of outstanding issues discussed during the status conference.
