JOHANNESBURG, June 17- Three people were killed and two others seriously injured Tuesday when a South African airforce plane crashed into mountains in the northeast of the country, police said.
Police said the dead were the two pilots and a passenger. All five were found trapped inside the wreckage of the plane after it crashed in Mpumalanga province shortly after 10:00am (0800 GMT).
“There were five people on board, two were seriously injured and the other three died at the scene,” said police spokesman Selvy Mohlala.
The South African airforce said the plane, a Cessna Caravan C208, was being used for training.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
In 2010, seven policemen were killed in a helicopter crash in the same province.
