MIGORI, Kenya June 7- Mumias East MP Ben Washiali was on Saturday heckled during the burial of Dalmas Otieno’s daughter in Rongo, when he castigated CORD leader Raila Odinga for hosting former Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga.

Washiali who is the Jubilee Coalition Deputy Whip in the National Assembly said Raila’s action is detrimental to the fight against crime in the country.

“I want to ask my fellow mourners, whether this group known as Mungiki has a good or bad reputation,” he posed, before mourners said the group had a bad reputation.

“When we see a leader saying he wants dialogue on restoring peace and development and he is sitting with the leader of Mungiki, he is not being honest,” said Washiali amid jeers that drowned out his address.

Rongo MP who is also former Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno who talked of his 27 years in politics, some of them working with the president, asked fellow leaders to stop politicizing the security issue in the country.

He said no leader should glorify a criminal in veiled reference to the recent meeting between Raila Odinga and the former Mungiki leader after which the CORD leader blamed the government over the recent gun attack on Njenga that left five people dead.

“There is need to deal with Mungiki in similar manner with Al-Shaabab. Nobody should praise a criminal”, said Otieno.

Odinga has been seen in public with Njenga thrice since he came back from the US, including a visit to his Karen home where he blamed the government for the recent gun attack on the former Mungiki leader in Nyahururu in which five people were shot dead.

Karachuonyo MP James Rege and Migori Senator Wilfred Machage pleaded with the Head of State to engage CORD in dialogue.

“Mr President to dialogue is not a sign of weakness; it is a wise thing especially if it is coming from a leader. Kindly agree to sit and hold dialogue with Raila. There is need to hold the dialogue to unite the country,” pleaded Machage.

President Kenyatta has ruled out any dialogue meeting with the opposition to discuss the reconstitution of the electoral body, which is one of the key agenda fronted by CORD.

The Head of State said he is open to develop the country with ideas from other leaders, but he is not prepared to dwell into destructive politics.

“The election is over and done with, what are we going back to talk about? Let us wait for another election but if the dialogue is on matters affecting the lives of Kenyan, I am saying to my brother you are welcome any day, I have no problem,” he said.
