“Leaders are warned not to incite people they are supposed to protect. As the leaders come together to stop their atrocities, I am calling them to report immediately to the Director of Criminal Investigations who has set a team of investigators to record their statements with a view of preferring charges to any perpetrators,” he ordered.
“They must record a statement with the CID tomorrow (on Tuesday).”
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kimaiyo warned that no leader will be spared if found to have been involved in funding or inciting local communities to violence.
“The persistent conflicts between the two communities; the Garreh and Degodia cannot be tolerated any more. The Government has established that these conflicts are being perpetrated by known people from the two communities,” he lamented.
“The Governors, of the two counties, Members of Parliament, Senators, the local leadership and the elders – some whom are based in Nairobi – know about these killings. Some of them finance these illegal activities that are perpetrated by their respective communities. They should come out forthwith and stop these heinous and cruel acts, directed to innocent people.”
His two deputies are already in the area coordinating the security operations being carried out to normalise the situation.
Twenty people were killed and 13 others wounded during the chaos that occurred on Sunday while 35 houses were burnt down.

“We are calling the leadership of the communities that border each other where cattle rustling menace is committed almost on daily or weekly basis to reconcile their communities to stop this menace. This is a practice which is not productive both economically and socially,” he appealed.
Kimaiyo said more officers have since been dispatched in the area to avert any further attacks.
“The National Police Service has dispatched more officers to the area who in collaboration with other security agencies are working round the round the clock to ensure normalcy returns to the area and restore peace and security,” he stated.
The IG also revealed that on Monday morning there was another attack, “and we are yet to get full details.”
The weekend killings have raised fresh concerns of the government’s capacity to deal with insecurity cases in the country, coming just a week after more than 60 people were killed in Mpeketoni.
He however said investigations were already underway to determine the real cause of the killings which has since been linked to politics.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku and Kimaiyo have said they will not resign over the killings, insisting that they have not failed.
