His lawyer Donald Kipkorir said it was unfortunate that the LSK was calling for his resignation, yet he is busy co-ordinating the rescue mission in Mpeketoni, Lamu.
“Our client rejects your demands in toto and will continue carrying out his national duties as provided in the Constitution… the said media release is cynical and done mala fide,” Kipkorir said.
Kipkorir argued that the attacks in Lamu are not in any way connected to the performance of his client, hence it is wrong for the LSK to ask for his resignation.
The LSK had earlier issued a media statement calling for the resignation of Lenku and Inspector General David Kimaiyo, blaming them for rising insecurity in the country.

LSK Chairman Eric Mutua said if the two failed to quit, they would institute judicial or constitutional proceedings to eject them from of office because they have failed to protect Kenyans.
Mutua accused Lenku and Kimaiyo of failing in their duties, citing the Westgate attack in September that left 67 people dead, series of attacks in the coastal region, Nairobi and the latest one in Mpeketoni in Lamu which has claimed over 60 lives.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday dismissed allegations that the attacks were executed by terrorists, saying there was evidence that they were politically motivated to kill members of a certain community.
Somalia’s Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab on Monday claimed responsibility for the massacre and destruction of property.
