The demonstrators rendered the road impassable after they lit bonfires at Ntulele, inconveniencing motorists.
“We have been here for more than two hour now, we can’t move and the crowd is getting violent,” a driver at a local media house who was returning to Nairobi after ferrying newspapers in Kisii told Capital FM on telephone from Ntulele.
Some of the vehicles were vandalized by the protesters before police officers arrived to quell the situation.
The protesters said they were unhappy with the slow response of police officers to emergency situations whenever they are attacked by criminals in the area.
Prior to Saturday’s protests, the residents had been complaining that police had failed to take action against known criminals who had been terrorizing them, even after reporting the matter at the Narok police station and other police posts there.
