NAIROBI, Kenya, June 12 – An Administration Police officer who performed duty as Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi’s Aide-de-Camp at a public event earlier this week has been demoted.

The officer has also been transferred to another station after he was seen standing behind the Governor in ceremonial uniform as Cheboi addressed County Assembly members in Baringo.

Baringo County Administration Police Commandant Elisha Odhiambo said he recommended the transfer after the officer told his seniors that he did not know it was wrong for him to do what he did.

“Action has been taken against the officer,” Odhiambo said.

According to Odhiambo, the officer breached the Force’s Standing Orders by acting as the Governor’s Aide-de-Camp.

The officer was one of those attached to the County Government office and had been providing security to the Governor.

The photograph of the officer in the Administration Police ceremonial uniform sparked mixed reactions on the social media, with users accusing the Governor of “misusing the officer.”

Kenya’s President has a military Aide-de-Camp who serves as an assistant to the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.
