Led by nominated MP Sofia Abdi Noor, the women said it makes no sense for Linturi to proceed with the motion yet Ruto has declared him and President Uhuru Kenyatta were responsible for the transfer of Kiplimo Rugut from National Youth Service (NYS).
“Every time affirmative action is under threat we urge the president and his deputy to stand with the women of this country. And we would like to say thank you to our Deputy President for defending us yesterday. We are behind you,” Sofia said at a press conference on Sunday.
Waiguru has been at the centre of controversy over the replacement of Kiplimo Rugut with Nelson Githinji as NYS Director General, with accusations that she did not follow law.
But on Saturday Ruto urged anyone dissatisfied with Waiguru’s actions to ask them instead of targeting Waiguru unfairly over the controversial transfer.
The women leaders are now urging the leaders to give priority to issues affecting Kenyans instead of focusing on what they termed as “petty politics and witch hunt.”
“Waiguru is performing and because she is pergforming, she is a threat to men. Not another woman again! Tell me, what constitution has Waihuru violated?” Sofia posed.
The group claimed that women have become easy targets for settling political scores, a trend they fear would in the long term undermine the two thirds gender rule.
“The women of Kenya will defend all leaders of integrity who are being targeted from both genders,” she said.
A section of Jubilee MPs have also distanced themselves from the censure motion.
