Kimaiyo says the directive is part of measures to contain terror activities across the country.
“All vehicles with tinted windows are to be impounded with immediate effect,” he ordered in a directive communicated by police spokeswoman Zipporah Mboroki.
Kimaiyo said this will be part of other measures being adopted after the recent twin blasts in Mombasa and Nairobi targeted at Public Service Vehicles.
“While this is ongoing on, I want to urge all Public Service Vehicle operators to be extra vigilant on the way they conduct their business. In particular they should avoid carrying excess passengers in their vehicles, screen luggage and parcels and passengers as they board in,” he affirmed.
In regards to the attacks, he said police have crucial leads which are likely to lead to arrest and subsequent prosecution of the culprits.
He has also asked Public Service Vehicle operators to be extra vigilant to ensure they eliminate risks of terror attacks.
“I want to add that vehicle operators need to be cautious on the safety of their passengers to avoid death or injury while passengers are under their charge,” he stated.
“They should endeavour to observe basic safety and security requirements, not only for the benefit of the passengers but for their own good and that of the society at large.”

He said police officers had, “stern instructions to deal with all forms of criminal activities across the country.”
“In conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, we will augment our efforts to provide the security across the country.”
He however noted that police alone cannot win the war without cooperation from members of the public.
“We urge the public not to hesitate to share information that will assist us to deal with illegal activities that are being committed within the public,” he said.
